64.
65.
Summary of GDB

66.
The purpose of a debugger such as GDB is to allow you to see what is
67. going on “inside” another program while it executes—or what another
68. program was doing at the moment it crashed.
69.

70.
GDB can do four main kinds of things (plus other things in support of
71. these) to help you catch bugs in the act:
72.

73.

74.
Start your program, specifying anything that might affect its behavior.
75.

Make your program stop on specified conditions.
76.

Examine what has happened, when your program has stopped.
77.

Change things in your program, so you can experiment with correcting the
78. effects of one bug and go on to learn about another.
79.

80.
You can use GDB to debug programs written in C and C++.
81. For more information, see Supported Languages.
82. For more information, see C and C++.
83.

84.
Support for D is partial. For information on D, see
85. D.
86.

87.
88.
Support for Modula-2 is partial. For information on Modula-2, see
89. Modula-2.
90.

91.
Support for OpenCL C is partial. For information on OpenCL C, see
92. OpenCL C.
93.

94.
95.
Debugging Pascal programs which use sets, subranges, file variables, or
96. nested functions does not currently work. GDB does not support
97. entering expressions, printing values, or similar features using Pascal
98. syntax.
99.

100.
101.
GDB can be used to debug programs written in Fortran, although
102. it may be necessary to refer to some variables with a trailing
103. underscore.
104.

105.
GDB can be used to debug programs written in Objective-C,
106. using either the Apple/NeXT or the GNU Objective-C runtime.
107.
