  65. <h3 class="section">15.3 Type and Range Checking</h3>
  66. <p>Some languages are designed to guard you against making seemingly common
  67. errors through a series of compile- and run-time checks. These include
  68. checking the type of arguments to functions and operators and making
  69. sure mathematical overflows are caught at run time. Checks such as
  70. these help to ensure a program&rsquo;s correctness once it has been compiled
  71. by eliminating type mismatches and providing active checks for range
  72. errors when your program is running.
  73. </p>
  74. <p>By default <small>GDB</small> checks for these errors according to the
  75. rules of the current source language. Although <small>GDB</small> does not check
  76. the statements in your program, it can check expressions entered directly
  77. into <small>GDB</small> for evaluation via the <code>print</code> command, for example.
