  64. <h4 class="subsubsection">9.4.2.4 ARM relocation generation</h4>
  65. <a name="index-data-relocations_002c-ARM"></a>
  66. <a name="index-ARM-data-relocations"></a>
  67. <p>Specific data relocations can be generated by putting the relocation name
  68. in parentheses after the symbol name. For example:
  69. </p>
  70. <div class="smallexample">
  71. <pre class="smallexample"> .word foo(TARGET1)
  72. </pre></div>
  73. <p>This will generate an &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_TARGET1</samp>&rsquo; relocation against the symbol
  74. <var>foo</var>.
  75. The following relocations are supported:
  76. <code>GOT</code>,
  77. <code>GOTOFF</code>,
  78. <code>TARGET1</code>,
  79. <code>TARGET2</code>,
  80. <code>SBREL</code>,
  81. <code>TLSGD</code>,
  82. <code>TLSLDM</code>,
  83. <code>TLSLDO</code>,
  84. <code>TLSDESC</code>,
  85. <code>TLSCALL</code>,
  86. <code>GOTTPOFF</code>,
  87. <code>GOT_PREL</code>
  88. and
  89. <code>TPOFF</code>.
  90. </p>
  91. <p>For compatibility with older toolchains the assembler also accepts
  92. <code>(PLT)</code> after branch targets. On legacy targets this will
  93. generate the deprecated &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_PLT32</samp>&rsquo; relocation. On EABI
  94. targets it will encode either the &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_CALL</samp>&rsquo; or
  95. &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_JUMP24</samp>&rsquo; relocation, as appropriate.
  96. </p>
  97. <a name="index-MOVW-and-MOVT-relocations_002c-ARM"></a>
  98. <p>Relocations for &lsquo;<samp>MOVW</samp>&rsquo; and &lsquo;<samp>MOVT</samp>&rsquo; instructions can be generated
  99. by prefixing the value with &lsquo;<samp>#:lower16:</samp>&rsquo; and &lsquo;<samp>#:upper16</samp>&rsquo;
  100. respectively. For example to load the 32-bit address of foo into r0:
  101. </p>
  102. <div class="smallexample">
  103. <pre class="smallexample"> MOVW r0, #:lower16:foo
  104. MOVT r0, #:upper16:foo
  105. </pre></div>
  106. <p>Relocations &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G0_NC</samp>&rsquo;, &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G1_NC</samp>&rsquo;,
  107. &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G2_NC</samp>&rsquo; and &lsquo;<samp>R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G3_NC</samp>&rsquo; can be
  108. generated by prefixing the value with &lsquo;<samp>#:lower0_7:#</samp>&rsquo;,
  109. &lsquo;<samp>#:lower8_15:#</samp>&rsquo;, &lsquo;<samp>#:upper0_7:#</samp>&rsquo; and &lsquo;<samp>#:upper8_15:#</samp>&rsquo;
  110. respectively. For example to load the 32-bit address of foo into r0:
  111. </p>
  112. <div class="smallexample">
  113. <pre class="smallexample"> MOVS r0, #:upper8_15:#foo
  114. LSLS r0, r0, #8
  115. ADDS r0, #:upper0_7:#foo
  116. LSLS r0, r0, #8

  119. ADDS r0, #:lower0_7:#foo
