  67. <p>The bss section is used for local common variable storage.
  68. You may allocate address space in the bss section, but you may
  69. not dictate data to load into it before your program executes. When
  70. your program starts running, all the contents of the bss
  71. section are zeroed bytes.

  73. <p>The <code>.lcomm</code> pseudo-op defines a symbol in the bss section; see
  74. <a href="Lcomm.html#Lcomm"><code>.lcomm</code></a>.

  76. <p>The <code>.comm</code> pseudo-op may be used to declare a common symbol, which is
  77. another form of uninitialized symbol; see <a href="Comm.html#Comm"><code>.comm</code></a>.

  79. <p>When assembling for a target which supports multiple sections, such as ELF or
  80. COFF, you may switch into the <code>.bss</code> section and define symbols as usual;
  81. see <a href="Section.html#Section"><code>.section</code></a>. You may only assemble zero values into the
  82. section. Typically the section will only contain symbol definitions and
  83. <code>.skip</code> directives (see <a href="Skip.html#Skip"><code>.skip</code></a>).
